Rising Traffic Accidents in Oman

By Haitham ALreziqi

13/7/2011

Traffic accidents are a painful reality on our streets. Hand by hand to reduce traffic accident in Oman and stop the death.

Oman has one the highest numbers of traffic accidents worldwide. Nearly six thousand men, women and children have lost their lives in car crashes in Oman between 2000 and 2008. Seventy thousand have been injured; some of them were disabled for life.

There are many reasons that cause traffic accidents and high deaths rates. There is careless driving, speeding, bad driving, the use of mobile phones whilst driving and the lack of seatbelts. These are the main reasons for serious injuries and deaths on Omani roads.

Everyday of the week we hear of a traffic accident happen in our village or in the neighboring villages. The sound of an ambulance comes for us as something normal, regardless of the seriousness of the traffic accident because we hear its voice everyday.
This traffic accident happened on AlAmeat road
There are many ways to avoid traffic accidents. First, you have to ensure everything in your car is good, without any fault that can occur such as the brake, and the engine are good. Secondly, you have to wear a seatbelt when you to go anywhere, even if the place you want is close to your home. In addition, you must drive at the legal speed. The road will be more organized and it will be less crowded. When you face a crowded in front of you should do four signals to let cars, which behind you know there is a crowded in that road. If you have children under the age of five you should use a special chair for them in the back seat because of their twice the weight. If you pressure on the brakes, children will be subject to the flight of the windscreen if they do not wear seatbelt allocated to them.

Captain Rashid Suleiman AL Abri

Captain Rashid Suleiman Al-Abri, who is the Head of the Press Department of Public Relations in the Royal Oman Police said, road accidents in Oman happen at an alarming rate. Also, it comes one of the biggest problem that upset Omani families. Royal Oman Police are looking to find solutions to this problem and they are trying to reduce the numbers of accidents, which cause death or injuries.

However, the numbers of people in Oman who buy cars is increasing day after day. That one of the main reasons the numbers of accidents in Oman are increasing. Slogan is “Lets work together to reduce traffic accidents”.

Royal Oman Police build a Traffic Safety Institute and its goals are to reduce the traffic accidents in Oman. Also, it is just an example of interagency cooperation for the social and health benefit of the nation to ensure such ongoing cooperation. If the Traffic Safety Institute achieves the goal of reducing the number of victims on the roads, it will be among the great gifts awarded to the Omani people on the National occasions.

This Institute is a specialized for training traffic officers, road users, driving instructors and examiners. Special programs courses and workshop will be held for these categories respectively. In addition, drivers will attend courses in the negotiation of accidents and the technical and administrative aspects of such negotiation.

Oman has the highest number of the traffic accident of the world. Also, the death is weekly and everyday. It comes one of the biggest issue not just in Oman, but also around the world. It needs to reduce this highest number of traffic accident by proceed and make the laws along the street. In addition, police should put strict penalties for those who violate the laws. The Traffic Institute is the good idea to avoid these traffic accidents and to reduce the highest number of traffic accidents. More ever, this institute has experience of its staff because they gain this experience from Sweden. We have to work together to reduce traffic accidents and reduce the rate of deaths.

Good health: the key to success in exams

When exams approach, students’ anxiety also increases, nervousness levels raise and students suffer from stress and mental disorders. Most of us are aware that the fundamental rule for ajoyous life is to have a healthy body and mind.
For getting a healthy body, we need to practice healthy living and eat nutritious food. Special care of the body is required especially during exams, when students have a lot of work load and do their last minute study which leaves them no time to take care of themselves.
There are two kinds of people, one, who overeat and two, those who eat very little. When people eat more, they lose energy from their bodies while studying and hence feel hungry with a willingness to eat more.
“In such cases, I advise students to eat a lot of fruits and fresh leafy vegetables, also because of the weather, they need to drink a lot of water and fresh fruit juices to keep themselves hydrated at all time.” says Farah Mohammed, a nurse and nutritionist at the SQU hospital.
Furthermore, time management is very essential for our life. However, practicing time management is not an easy task, it some with a lot of patience and the ability to make good decisions at the right time. From my experience, I advise everyone to begin by taking slow steps with easier to the more complex ones. Then I am sure there will be a gradual shift in people’s lifestyles.
In addition, take out some time for your body from your busy schedule, do some fine exercises like some playing sports or doing some breathing exercises. Breathing exercises improve concentration levels. Relaxation will help calm body’s nervous disorders which result from anxiety. The aim from breathing activities is to calm down the students’ mental distraction from worries, stress and absentmindedness.
As students, we all first need to take good care about our bodies and then focus on attempting to get good marks.
